In celebration of RoboGarden’s approaching FIVE-year anniversary of offering AI-driven Digital WorkForce Upskilling and Re-Skilling opportunties, we’re presenting an ongoing series of “Where are they now?” posts focused on those who have successfully completed a RoboGarden-powered Digital Career Transition program. These individuals have inspiring and important stories to share in an era when career transitions and pivots are the norm. We’re delighted to present the next in this series with a member of the May 2023 Full Stack Developer bootcamp presented by Western University Continuing Studies, powered by RoboGarden. Let us introduce you to Marwa Elkelani!
The Participant
Marwa is an experienced public-school educator, former Registered Dietitian, and digital entrepreneur who is transitioning to pursuing her ambitions as a software developer while growing and expanding her online business. Marwa’s strategy in this pivot includes confidently completing the RoboGarden powered Full Stack Developer bootcamp presented by Western University Continuing Studies.
The Background
Marwa Elkelani graduated from Western University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, specializing in Nutrition and Dietetics, and also a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Marwa worked as a classroom teacher, as a special education and language consultant and developed new math curriculum that included coding for grades 7 and 8. She started to learn coding to be able to teach her students who were demonstrating interest in developing their own digital skills. As a digital entrepreneur Marwa also builds math and digital skills curriculum which she distributes via a teacher-focused online marketplace.
The Bootcamp
Marwa decided that completing a Full Stack Developer bootcamp was the best next step she could take to achieve her tech sector and digital entrepreneurship dreams. As a Western University alumnus, Marwa was thrilled to discover the Full Stack Development Full-time Bootcamp powered by RoboGarden by searching for programs at Western Continuing Studies. Marwa was further delighted that the cost was less than half the price of other bootcamp programs she considered!
The Full-Time intensive 11-week, 450-hour schedule was a fit for Marwa as most of the 11 weeks took place during her summer break from teaching. However, for the first 5 weeks, she juggled full-time teaching and the full-time bootcamp schedule. It was a challenge, but she made it work.
Marwa attended the pre-program webinars and immediately identified the presenting instructors, Emmanuel and Jordan, as the right type of person for her to learn with. Once she registered and entered the program Marwa found the Learn to Earn weeks and the RoboGarden learning platform innovative and appreciated the career and business-focused content. The gamification elements helped to build camaraderie in the cohort, Marwa and her peers had friendly competition for who had the highest XP in exercises and in the program.
Marwa is a constant learner and knows how to study and learn new things online on her own, but she also appreciates online instruction, these factors contributed to Marwa’s success in completing the program and submitting a superb Capstone project. This mindset is common in those who succeed in RoboGarden-powered Digital Career Transition programs.
The Transition
Marwa continues to apply her new skills while maintaining her position as a full-time educator at an Ontario school board. She is also working on scaling her Full Stack Developer bootcamp Capstone project to become a new platform of delivery for her curriculum that is currently hosted with a third-party online marketplace, and to compete with other online marketplaces. Marwa is interested in a transition into the Canadian tech sector, particularly in education technology.
Marwa can apply the skills she learned in the Full Stack Development Bootcamp to pursue a digital workforce career in various ways, such as:
- Developing web applications and software for businesses and organizations
- Creating and managing databases and data systems
- Designing and implementing user interfaces for websites and applications
- Collaborating with other developers and IT professionals to create and maintain complex systems
- Providing technical support and troubleshooting for software and applications
The staff at Western University Continuing Studies and RoboGarden are thrilled to congratulate Marwa on completing the Full Stack Developer Bootcamp and submitting an outstanding Capstone project. We know Marwa will be successful in her ongoing career transition and in her online entrepreneurship. Marwa’s path is an inspiration to others who are considering a career change or seeking to enhance their skills in the field of Full Stack Software development. Take a risk, if you’re prepared and committed, the outcome can be the one you seek!
